Snagit 12 Screen Capture Application for Windows and Mac

When you run Snagit, the
application screen capture
display mini control coming
out of the top edge of the
screen. There is a big red
button to take a screenshot
and
smaller buttons for
various regulatory options.
Text-scraping option is no
longer available.
Screen capture button is
just one of many ways to
start a screen capture, by
default, Snagit also lets you
press
PrtSc (or other
keyboard shortcut you
want) to begin capturing.
If you ever tried to screen
capture application, you
know that it is not easy
an application
that can capture the drop-
down list and other
Windows features that
tend to disappear when
you press a button.
Features countdown timer
is very handy Snagit, which
lets
you capture anything
on the screen. It's
supposed to be a feature
present in all image
capture applications.
Snagit allows you to easily
apply special effects to
images (such as grayscale,
text, arrows, and border)
without being super
complicated tool like Adobe
Illustrator.
Video recorder
feature allows you to
include a microphone and
an audio track of Windows,
from
an MP3 recording on
a disc or a YouTube video.
TechSmith's Fuse
Applications Android and
iOS (both free) allows you
to export an image from
your phone or tablet into a
desktop that is running
Snagit if the device is on a
Wi-Fi network of the same
- and it works well.
Profiling Captures
SnagIt comes with a small
set of "profiles" that
capture determines what
will be captured when you
take a screen shot. Default
profile All-in-One displays a
pair of icons that can be in
drag to select the portion
of the screen that you
want, or redirect the
mouse from side to pick up
the whole screen. For the
first option, your choice will
be taken when you release
the
mouse button. If the
selected area is
automatically selected, you
simply tapping the left
mouse button to take a
screenshot. Ashampoo
Snap 7, on the contrary
require that you click on
the highlighted after you
mark the parts to be
retrieved.
Other profiles including one
that includes a screen
capture into Word, or
record a video and send it
to screencast. Similar
profiles can be downloaded
from
within the application
itself, so you can use the
profile to send a screen
capture to Twitter or
Facebook, or YouTube to
post video capture. You can
also
create a custom
profile, by selecting the
output and effects, and
save the settings.
Picture Editing, Video
Editing New
By default, open shots in
Snagit Editor, and Snagit
images stored in the
library. One great thing
about storing images
Snagit is that every
screenshot you take will be
accessible
from the cache
program, even if you do
not store them explicitly.
From the editor, you can
store images and video to
disk in standard formats,
including JPG, BMP, PDF,
and Flash. Snap 7 does not
allow you to save the
image as a Flash file. You
can even add hotspots that
act as hyperlinks if you
save the image as MHTML,
PDF, SWF, or SNAG format
of Snagit. One important
feature for anyone who
makes a screenshot of
Internet applications is Blur
tool, which is very useful
when you want to cover
the elements in the picture
- the screen blurs phone
number to be published
together for example.
Google Drive integration
allows you to upload
images to a specific folder
without leaving the
application. Unfortunately,
the popular storage
services such as Box,
Dropbox, and OneBox does
not support. Images can be
exported to Microsoft Word,
Excel, or PowerPoint.
's New in version 12 is a
simple video editing
features. Previously, you
need a separate video
editor if you want to cut
the video. Now you can do
it directly in the application.
Trimming a video as easy
as clicking on the icon Cut,
but if you want to add a
title or other, you need an
external video editor.
Captured video can be
divided into Camtasia, a
screencast, or YouTube.
Previous versions of Snagit
video recording in AVI
format, however, starting
with version 11, Snagit
adopts MPEG-4 format. You
can preview the captured
video in Snagit video
editor, and take each
frame of the video.
SnagIt gives some keys to
its own, such as Shift-F9
and Shift-F10 to start and
stop video capture. If you
use these keys to other
applications, such as
Microsoft Word, use Shift-
F10 which is the same
function as clicking the
right mouse button. You
may be confused when the
buttons
stop working. The
solution is to go to the
Tools menu and change or
disable the button in the
Preferences dialog
application program.
Small Problem
Serious complaints with
Snagit 12 is, that this
application still lacks
features that will allow you
to
revert to cancel all of
your modifications to the
stored images at once,
without repeatedly
pressing Ctrl-Z or click the
Undo icon for any changes
you have made. You can
close the image without
saving, then open it again,
but this caused many
problems rather than using
the revert feature. Also, in
many applications revert
can be canceled if you
change your mind.
Conclusion
Despite the lack of
reverting function, Snagit
beautifully designed,
powerful and efficient
application that not just
about all to do screen
capture application. Rival
products such as
Ashampoo Snap screen
capture 7 to effectively
perform the basic functions
of a screen capture, but it
does not match the
flexibility and power of
Snagit. Of course, if you
are using Windows, you
can find the Snipping Tool
to capture a screen that is
easy and fast, but it will
not be enough to screen
shotter more serious.
